The Killagay Kennel was originally started by Mrs. Constance K. Christie (Connie) over 45 years ago with the breeding, showing, and working of dual purpose Irish Setters. The Irish Setter, Dual Champion/Can Ch Killagay's Image of Tara, Am/Can CD, VC No. 1, VCX No. 1, "Cricket" is one of its greatest accomplishments and to date remains the most richly titled Irish Setter in the history of the breed.
Approximately 35 years ago the Killagay Kennel acquired its first Welsh Springer Spaniel and has gone from strength-to-strength in carrying on its tradition of dual purpose dogs. Ch Killagay Jo O'Kintyre, "Bitsi," was the foundation bitch for the kennel and to date still holds the record as America's top producing Welsh Springer Spaniel with 17 champions. Am/Can Ch Killagay's Color Me Gingham was one of five champions in Betsi's first litter by Walter Gingham. The kennel's most richly titled Welsh Springer Spaniel is Am/Can Ch Killagay Pacos Bill, SH, WD, WDX, VCX No. 2, Am/Can CD, "Billy," and currently holds the record as the most titled American bred Welsh Springer Spaniel.
While "Billy" holds the title of VCX No. 2 as awarded by the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club of America, American Kennel Club records reveal that he was the first Welsh Springer Spaniel in America to qualify for the title "VCX."
Mrs. Christie, a respected AKC judge, has always promoted the dual capabilities (field and show) of the Irish Setter and the Welsh Springer Spaniel and was responsible for establishing the hunting program for Welsh Springer Spaniel in the US.
